Understanding the Operationalization of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII)

Status: Ongoing
Background
The Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) was developed to accelerate progress in reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths through a coordinated package of interventions. As implementation expands across States, understanding how the initiative is operationalised within different health system levels is critical for achieving its intended impact.
Our Focus
This research initiative explores how the MAMII strategy translates from policy design to implementation. Through a comparative approach, the study examines the alignment between the national strategy, implementation experiences in a selected MAMII-active State, and the evolving implementation landscape in Rivers State.
Expected Contribution
The study aims to identify implementation lessons, highlight contextual factors influencing programme delivery, and generate evidence that can support effective scale-up and adaptation of maternal and newborn health interventions.
